Goals and Reflections

Today is my birthday and I like to look back each year.

On April 4, 2023 – I decided to teach as many classes as possible on my birthday (6). I ended the day mentally and physically exhausted. According to my records, I had 45 more hours to go.

My apprentice program required a combination of observation, practice and teaching totaling 450 hours. My first teacher training class was in August 2022 and I was determined to complete the goal by August 1, 2023.

Today, looking back – I can only chuckle at myself. I was force feeding my studies for the sake of a date on the calendar. What a difference a year makes.

While my actual goal was arbitrary,- loftier accomplishments I never imagined emerged.

I don’t have to report my ‘numbers’ to anyone else, but I’ve completed over 130 more hours of teaching, observing, and self-practice.

I opened my own studio and have a nice group of clients that I adore.

I NEVER wanted to open my own place – yet here I am.

As of April 1, Bett Pilates turned a profit of $42. I’m tracking every expense to the penny.

At the end of this month, I’m going back out to LA to visit my home studio to play and celebrate.

I’m stronger than I’ve EVER been and my hip is getting better. My migraines are gone.

I hope when I look back next year, I see some of the following:

-          Did I write more fiction and about Pilates?

-          Did I go out into the community and promote myself?

-          Did I fail forward?

-          Did I ask myself daily to be in the moment?

-          Did I wonder about the future with an open and excited heart?

Yep. I’m ready.

Bettina Williford

Bettina came to Pilates on her 50th birthday because the pain in her back and hips were taking a toll on her movement. Even sitting was difficult!

She was amazed how much her pain subsided after the first few lessons. The mind-body awareness coupled with full body strengthening changed her entire body …. and life.

~

Bettina has completed over 500 hours of Traditional Pilates teacher training with renowned Pilates Teacher Hilary Opheim and is qualified for the National Pilates Certification Program (NPCP). She is always looking for ways to expand her learning.

She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Communications. She is an award winning novelist , editor, writing coach, and ghost writer.
